In 1901, Rupert B. BooMont built a marvel of American hotel history—the BooMont Hotel—boasting complete electricity and modern elevators, a first of its kind. The hotel was an instant success, but shortly after opening, Mr. Boomont’s wife died tragically, and BooMont himself became a recluse. Despite Mr. Boomont’s absence, the hotel continued to thrive until the Great Lightning Storm of 1924. During this unprecedented electrical event, many guests, including Mr. BooMont, disappeared without a trace, and the hotel was unable to recover. It ultimately closed its doors in 1925, but current rumors suggest it may reopen in September 2025, for the first time in 100 years.
